Valerie Saiki is the Kauai Community Coordinator for the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii, a program under the Hawaii Public Health Institute. Saiki has provided education on tobacco to the Kauai community for the past 15 years having held various roles in tobacco control. Her audiences range from school-aged children to adults and kupuna.
The presentation, in the June Science @ Your Library program, will include a brief history of electronic smoking devices used for vaping. She will describe the effects of vaping nicotine in the body, local statistics, current Hawaii policies, and ways to keep all tobacco products out of youth possession. Participants are invited to ask questions regarding vaping, history, effects, and prevention.
If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change. For a list of upcoming library events, visit test-library.ehawaii.gov/events.
