Legends of the Menehune have been a popular tradition in the Hawaiian Islands for 150 years. But what is fact and what is fiction? And where are the original written sources?
Author and researcher Jan TenBruggencate probed the stories’ origins, tracking the developing tales and shared traditions into the 1800s. His new book, Menehune Mystery: The Original Tales and the Origins of the Myth retells the oldest Menehune stories, reveals their precedents, and how the stories evolved over time.
