Families are invited to celebrate the joys and challenges of chess in our Kauai Community Chess Tournament. The tournament is for ages Kindergarten through adult. All skill levels and ages are welcome. This is a made-for-families event. We encourage parents to play alongside their kids. The tournament is free to enter. Players can register by emailing damian@kauaichess.com. Please include the name of each player. Contact phone, grade level or age, experience level, and chess rating (online or over board) if you have one.
Bring: A friend. Lunch or lunch money. All chess boards, pieces and clocks will be provided.
Format: A four-round Swiss-System, non-elimination chess tournament (everyone plays all rounds).
Sections: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, Adult. Note: 10-12 players could be mixed with adult depending on the number of entries.
Round Times: 9:00, 10:30, 1:00, 2:30. Awards ceremony at 4:15. Half-point byes available in any rounds in case you have other commitments on that day.
Time Control: Each player has 30 minutes for the game with a 15-second delay on each move.
Prizes: Medals for top three players in each age division, male and female.
Parent Note: We recommend you play in the adult section for the fun of it. Beginners of all ages are highly encouraged to play. Players under age 16 must be accompanied by a guardian at all times!
Lunch: There will be a break from the end of your second game (approximately noon) until the start of the third round at 1:00. Bring a bag lunch or bring to buy food at a nearby restaurant.
