On Saturday, September 24^th at 9:00am, the Waialua Public Library, will celebrate its 95^th anniversary on the front lawn of the Library. The public is warmly invited to attend this free event.

In 1927 the Waialua Public Library opened as the “Waialua Community Station” and was located in the Waialua Sugar Plantation’s Office. Books were cared for and circulated by a Waialua High School Student who was paid $10 a month by the State Library of Hawaii. By 1936 the Waialua Community Station was large enough to become a Branch Library and was moved into the rear of the old Waialua Post Office Building.  In 1951 ground was broken for the new Waialua Public Library that serves us today – with two improvements in 1975 when an 840 sq. ft addition was constructed and air conditioning was installed.

From the Great Depression through the current pandemic our library has been a vital hub in our community, providing access and opportunity for everyone to read, learn, share and grow. Come help us celebrate Waialua Library’s 95 years serving the North Shore!
