Dr. Steven Businger will discuss the evolution of recent hurricanes that have threatened Hawaii including how and why they form, how their structure affects the hazards they produce, and how to forecast their behavior. He will also cover the similarities and differences between hurricanes and Kona lows (a winter half year phenomenon). And finally, he will say a few words about how climate change is expected to affect Hawaii’s hazardous weather.
Dr. Businger is Professor and Chair of the Dept. of Atmospheric Sciences at UH. He has made notable contributions to atmospheric sciences in important, yet diverse areas.
