Who is it for?
All ages
How does it work?
The Hawaii State Public Library System offers free year-round reading challenges through Beanstack, an online reading platform. Participants will be able to track/log reading minutes, participate in fun activities, receive book recommendations, write book reviews, and more.

Letters about literature
Who is it for?
Students in grades 4-12
How does it work?
Students are asked to read a book, poem or speech and write to the author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally. Letters are judged on state and national levels. Tens of thousands of students from across the country enter Letters About Literature each year.

Nene awards
Who is it for?
Students in grades 4-6
How does it work?
R.E.A.D. (Read Enjoy Analyze Discuss) for NENE promotes reading and discussion of literature. Students in grades 4 to 6 are encouraged to read Nene Nominees, discuss them with other students and classes, then vote for their favorite.

Who is it for?
People with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical disability
How does it work?
NLS is a free braille and talking book library service for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical disability that prevents them from reading or holding the printed page. Through a national network of cooperating libraries, NLS offers books the way you want them: in braille or audio formats, mailed to your door for free, or instantly downloadable.
