How do I find a book or DVD (or anything else in the catalog)?

To find a book, use the library’s online catalog at the library or from anywhere you have internet access.  Need a little help to get started? Start here.

Request

I found the book in the catalog, now how do I get it?

  • From the list of books, click on the title you would like to borrow
  • Click on the PLACE HOLD button on the right
  • Fill in your library barcode and PIN and click on LOGIN
  • Select the location of the library that you want to pick up the book
  • Click on the Place Hold(s) button
  • If you have email notifications set up, you will receive an email when the item is ready to be picked up.

There is no charge for this service if you pick up your item once it is available. If you do not pick up the item, however, $1 will be charged to your library account.


Borrow

The email says my book is ready. Now what?

Your library card is your key to borrowing circulating books, cassettes, CDs, videos, etc. at any Hawaii public library. Just present your library card and library materials to the staff at the circulation desk, or if available use one of the convenient self-check stations. The staff member will check out and stamp the due date on the material.

Are there any fees for borrowing items?

The only items that have a fee for borrowing are DVDs. There is a $1.00 fee per DVD per check out.

How can I keep track of what I have borrowed?

There are a few ways that you can keep track of what you have borrowed.

  1. The library’s online catalog has a place for you to login with your library card and PIN and view all the materials you have checked out and their due dates. Try it!
  2. If you have a smart device, download the Hawaii Mobile App. Once you have added your library card number and PIN to the app, you will be able to view all of the items you have checked out.
  3. Stop by the library and ask staff for assistance.

In observance of the Statehood Day holiday, all public libraries will be closed on Friday, August 16, 2024.

In observance of the Labor Day holiday, all public libraries will be closed from Saturday to Monday, August 31 to September 2, 2024.
