Russell Cahill is the author of Kolea: A Story of Hawai’i and Beyond and Tales from the Parks: My Adventures as a Park Ranger. Russell was the first national park ranger of Hawai’ian ancestry. His father, William was born in Hilo in 1915 and his youngest son Matthew, a National Park employee is a former teacher at Hilo High School. Russell served as a Park Ranger in Yosemite Glacier Bay, Katmai and Haleakala National Parks during the 1960s and 70s.
