Sustainable living with Aina University

January 10, 2023 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Man holding 3 ulu.

Kāwika Lewis a resident of Hilo has been involved in agriculture and farming practices for over 25 years. He is currently a Kumu Mahiai at Nā Wai Ola Public Charter School in Mountain View. For the past 10 years, Kāwika and his ʻohana have been stewarding ʻāina at Pāhoehoe Farmlots in Paukaʻa, South Hilo, known as ʻĀina University. ʻĀina University is an ʻohana based educational farm forming partnerships and collaborations for the perpetuation of Hawaiian lifestyle, aloha ʻāina and sustainability. With an average of over 80% of Hawaiʻiʻs food imported, food security and sustainability are very important to Kāwika. Our Kūpuna sustained their needs and now Kāwika continues to encourage others to doing the same because as islanders we need to actively work towards being as sustainable as possible once again.
