sumi-e style painting of bamboo

The Japanese art of Sumi-e, or ink painting, involves limiting details to capture the essence of the subject.  The art requires only simple materials such as black ink, water, rice paper, & brushes.

Artist Hisae Shouse and her students will demonstrate the art of Sumi-e on Saturday, November 16th at 10:00 a.m. in the First Floor Reading Room.  A reception with the artists will follow.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date.  We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations.  All programs are subject to change.  For a list of upcoming library events, visit test-library.ehawaii.gov/events.
