Stars and our Sun

July 10, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Universe of Stories SRP

Retired astronomer Tom Geballe, from Gemini Observatory, will give a children’s talk using slides and videos.   He will explain why the sun is a star. Why does it shine much more brightly than the stars?  How big is it? What it is made of? How hot is it? He will use illustrations to show how stars’ sizes, temperatures, colors, and ages compare to those of the Sun. He will also show how we use the Moon to learn about the Sun, and whether we know if other stars have planets orbiting them.

Join us for sun craft, too!
