Have something in common with your teen; read a book together and enjoy laughing, discussing and thinking about books. Pearl City Library is hosting Book Club Hub: a Parent Teen Book Club that will create a forum for parents and students to read together. The Teen Librarian will facilitate the book discussion and lead participants in activities and conversations about selected titles. The is a great opportunity to communicate with your tween/teen as she/he moves forward in becoming a lifelong reader. Three sessions and three books are scheduled, all times are 6pm -7:30pm: Monday , September 24, 2018 STARGIRL by Jerry Spinelli; Monday, October 29, 2018 SEEDFOLKS by Paul Fleischman and Monday, November 26, 2018 THE FUTURE OF US by Jay Asher. All of these titles are available in the library system both in print and in e-book format. Several copies will be at Pearl City Public Library reference desk one month prior to each session. November’s choice is The Future of Us ; a contemporary novel: It’s 1996, and less than half of all American high school students have ever used the Internet. Emma just got her first computer and an America Online CD-ROM. Josh is her best friend. They power up and log on–and discover themselves on Facebook, fifteen years in the future. Everybody wonders what their destiny will be. Josh and Emma are about to find out. They eagerly explore, in chapters that alternate between the two characters’ perspectives, the destinies their online profiles reveal.
