November is recognized as Miniature Art Month throughout the United States and the world.
Miniatures take less time, paint, and canvas but no less painting skill. Despite its size, a small painting can still tell a great story.
Local artists Claudia Wallace and MaryAnne Long will share the joy of working on a small scale and lead an interactive art workshop so you can have your own miniature work of art to treasure.
Supplies will be provided and will be provided on the first come, served basis. So come early to make sure you get a mini canvas and easel of your own.
Artist’s Bios
MaryAnne Long, a retired teacher from Massachusetts, has lived in Hau`ula for 30 years.Through her volunteer work, she met an artist who convinced her to take oil painting classes. After her first lesson, she became hooked on art.She paints in watercolor, gouache, and has developed her own chocolate paint.Realizing that she needed to know how to draw, she signed up for online classes and found drawing to be the key to really believing in herself as an artist.Mrs. Long is available for commission work and donates many pieces to charities. Look for her monthly column, LONG on ART, in MidWeek’s Windward Voice. Her other hobbies are gardening (especially herbs) and consulting for non-profit organizations.
Claudia Wallace has a lifetime devoted to the creative process. She’s had the fortunate opportunity, freedom and mentorship to explore various form and presentation. From paint to pastels, jewelry making and woodwork, glass and pottery to photography and film making, it’s been an all-encompassing pursuit that eventually lured her into the realm of mixed media. As an artist, she feels it is exhilarating to have free abstract manifestation that comes without boundaries or rules. A graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts, Claudia Wallace has shown her work at several local galleries including the Windward, Louis Pohl, and the Cedar Street Galleries. This year, she took first place at the 2019 WAG Spring Reflections show, second place at the HCC Mixed Media Show, and was honored at the Ho’omaluhia New Year Invitational.
