The Kapaa Public Library Maker Lab is a place where people can learn and use new technologies and equipment they may otherwise not have access to. Patrons can also get help with a project they are currently working on or they can start a new project. People can also meet up and collaborate with others on maker projects. All that is needed is a valid library card.
Kauai Makerspace (KM), a non-profit organization, has partnered with Kapaa Public Library to provide skilled subject matter experts to offer free instruction for proper tool usage, safety guidance and to oversee equipment operation. KM provides a collection of tools and equipment, including sewing machines, 3D printers, a 28-inch vinyl cutter, digital electronics and workstations and ancillary computers.
Every Tuesday the Maker Lab in the library meeting room is open to valid library card holders from 2pm – 8pm. Recommended for Teens to Adults.
In addition to regular Maker Lab activities, on the second Tuesday of each month, patrons are welcome bring in sewing projects they need help with and/or sewing projects they just want to work on in a group environment.
Please check with the library or the online HSPLS calendar for periodic workshops and special sewing classes on the First and Second Tuesdays of the month, respectively.
All programs are subject to change. If you require an auxiliary aid or accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days before the program date.
