In Celebration of the 2019 Summer Reading Program!  See how astronomers from the University of Hawai’i Institute for Astronomy use the light given off by planets, stars, and galaxies to understand their composition and temperature.  Electric lamps will be set up with various gases and attendees will use hand-held spectrographs to see the different colors of light they emit, and use that to figure out what they are.  Attendees will also be shown how temperature is measured by using the colors of light from certain types of objects.

This one-hour program is suitable for all ages and is funded by the Friends of Kaimuki Public Library and by grants from the Hawai’i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Young children must be accompanied by a parent or an adult caregiver.
