Stories Told Through Taiko with Kenny Endo & Taiko Ensemble

June 29, 2024 @ 2:30 pm - 3:15 pm

Taiko drummer Kenny Endo

Celebrate Summer Reading! Our theme is E Heluhelu Kākou; Moʻolelo, and Hawaii’s public libraries will be celebrating the rich and varied stories that shape our communities.

From the image of snow falling through the sound of taiko to the excitement of samurai shooting arrows while riding galloping horses, taiko has the ability to express a myriad of images and stories. Learn how a small village of farmers and fisherman saved their village through their powerful beating of drums & more. Kenny Endo and the Taiko Center of the Pacific have been entertaining and educating audiences about the Art of Taiko Drumming throughout Hawai‘i and the world.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i. This is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with additional funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. Program schedule is subject to change.
