Harbors and Landings of the Ka’u District

March 2, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm

Kapena with a waterfall backdrop

In the times before highways and motor vehicles, harbors and landing places were the important links between different districts, other islands and foreign lands. They were the means of getting people and things that came by sea safely ashore as well as sending off the people and products of the land by sea to other places.
Kapena Kiko Johnston-Kitazawa will take you on a journey by story and pictures along the coast of Ka’u. He will discuss the geological, wind, and sea, and social/historical factors that make landings come and go. Kiko will also share some events that occurred at these unique places.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change.
