PROGRAM CANCELLED – Hana Hou! Hawaiian History Talk with Boyd Bond

March 23, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Boyd Bond Portrait

North Kohala Public Library presents a Hana Hou! “talk story” session on How Hawaii Became a State, with local storyteller and historian Boyd Bond.  On Monday, March 23rd at 6:30 p.m., Bond will discuss how the Kingdom of Hawaii was a sovereign nation with embassies in 90 countries until the Queen was removed from her throne in January 1893. Between the kingdom and statehood, the islands were briefly a Republic until 1900, and then a Territory of the USA before becoming a State in 1959.

But why was the Queen removed? And why didn’t the Hawaiians resist any of these changes? Or did they?

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change. For a list of upcoming library events, visit test-library.ehawaii.gov/events
