Humpback whale entangled in a net

Humpback whale populations in Hawaiʻi have undergone major changes in recent years. Learn about the trend, what might be causing it, the monitoring efforts and how these changes may relate to entanglement threats from one of the leading humpback whale experts.

Guest lecturer Ed Lyman is the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary’s Natural Resource Specialist and Large Whale Entanglement Response Coordinator. Lyman has
worked with the Sanctuary for over 17 years and has participated in over 120 disentanglement efforts.

This program is made possible by the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary & The Friends of the North Shore Library at Princeville.
