Exhibit – Beautiful Island: Taiwan’s Journey to Democracy

Today, Taiwan is a prosperous democracy with a thriving civil society.  How did it come about?  This exhibit tells the epic story.

The exhibit is structured into areas of focus including the introduction: Who are the Taiwanese? And parts 1 through 5 covering the topics Taiwan Prior to 1895, Japanese Colonial Rule and Resistance (1895-1945), Repression During the Cold War (1945-1975), Democratization (1975-1996), and Taiwanese Identity and Two-party Rule (1996-2017)

This exhibit will run January 10, 2019 though February 15, 2019, and is available for viewing in the front lobby of Hawaii State Library during regular library hours.
