In celebration of the 2019 Summer Reading Program!
The visible sky we see at night, composed of planets, stars, and galaxies, represents only a tiny fraction of the matter in our Universe. The vast majority is dark and mysterious. Join Dr. Harald Ebeling and explore the evidence for the existence of dark matter and learn of the ingenious ways in which astronomers attempt to detect and characterize the invisible substance that pervades the cosmos.
Dr. Harald Ebeling is an astronomer and faculty member with the University of Hawaii’s Institute for Astronomy. His work revolves around the study of galaxy clusters and their constituents: dark matter, the intra-cluster medium, and galaxies.
This free 45-minute program is suitable for ages 11 and older.
Sponsored by the Friends of North Kohala Library. This program is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with funding and support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
