Sadou, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, is a cornerstone of Japanese culture.  One of the most important utensils in a tea ceremony is the chawan, or tea bowl, since the green tea called matcha is made in and drank from the chawan.  In Japanese ceramics, nothing is held in higher esteem than the chawan.  Shofu Kai has been studying what makes the old, traditional chawan so valuable and cherished.  This exhibit is presented by Shofu Kai, a group of ceramists at the Hawai’i Potter’s Guild who meet to study and learn about the artistry of Japanese tea ceremony utensils.

The exhibit will be on display in the library’s front lobby, during regular library hours.
