An Evening with Artist in Residence James Jack Discussing his Upcoming Artwork: Molokai Window

The Molokai Arts Center and Molokai Public Library present:

Artwork about making connections between the stories of the people of Molokai and the soil on which they live.  James Jack is an artist concerned with rejuvenating fragile connections that exist in the world.  He makes artworks in direct relationship to places and the people that live there with a sensitivity to ecological networks.  He has developed socially engaged artworks for exhibitions including Setouchi International Art Festival, Busan Biennale Sea Art Festival, Institute of Contemporary Art Singapore, Echigo-Tsumari Triennial, Art Base Momshima and the Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore.  Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at TMT Art Projects (Fukuoka, TAMA Galley (New York), Beppu-Wiarda Gallery (Portland), Satoshi Koyama Gallery (Tokyo) and the Portland Art Center.  Together with Yoshitaka Nanjo and Shotaro Yoshino he has exhibited as part of the artist collective World Dirt Association at Ichihara Art x Mic (Chiba), the Water and Land Art Festival (Niigata) and SYP Art Space (Tokyo).  Jack moved to Japan as a Crown Prince Akihito Fellow in 2008 and his studio has been based there ever since.  He completed an M.A. at University of Hawaii-Manoa, PH.D. at Tokyo University of the Arts and is currently an Artist Research Fellow at the Social Art Lab, Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan.
