Join us for a talk-story about the ʻūkēkē, the only indigenous stringed instrument of Hawaiʻi, for mele hoʻipoʻipo, oli, and hula. Listen to a variety of ʻūkēkē stories and experiences, past and present. Please, come, learn, and share to ensure that the traditional Hawaiian art and science of ʻūkēkē lives on for generations to come. Participants will be given the
chance to try their hand at playing the ʻūkēkē.
Participation is not required.
Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library 10 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
