In honor of the 175th commemoration of La Hoihoi Ea, Sovereignty Restoration Day, this July 31, the Hawaii State Library is showcasing a number of unique documents from a special Hawaii and Pacific collection: the Admiral Thomas Papers. This exhibit highlights several primary resources from the collection related to the 1843 restoration of Hawaiian sovereignty, including an address written and signed by King Kamehameha III in 1844.
The collection of Admiral Thomas Papers was purchased by the Friends of the Library of Hawaii, with assistance from community partners, in 1967 and contains manuscripts and printed documents related to Admiral Richard Thomas’ service as Commander-in-Chief of British ships and vessels in the Pacific Ocean (1841-1844.)
All programs are subject to change. If you require an auxiliary aid or accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days before the program date.
