For the month of November, the HSL Book Group will discuss Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan.
In development to be adapted for TV with Spider-Man star Tom Holland attached to star, Beneath a Scarlet Sky is based on the true story of a forgotten hero of World War II. Likened to bestsellers All the Light We Cannot See, The Nightingale, and Unbroken, this tale follows Italian teen Pino, whose parents force him to enlist as a German soldier to keep him out of combat. When Pino becomes the personal driver for Hitler’s left hand in Italy, General Hans Leyers, he takes the opportunity to spy for the Allies and sees the horrors of the Nazi occupation from inside the German High Command.
The HSL Book Group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Language, Literature, and History Section. New members are always welcome. No registration necessary. Inquiries about the Hawaii State Library Book Group can be directed to hslbookgroup@gmail.com or (808) 586-3499.
