Dr. Steve Miller, a docent at the Honolulu Museum of Art with ten years of experience, will present a PowerPoint lecture in the Library’s First Floor Reading Room featuring images of artworks, mostly paintings. He will first discuss the fondness for pattern and naturalism that is characteristic of Japanese art from all periods. Dr. Miller will then spend the rest of the lecture reviewing the major styles of Western art from pre-historic to modern. He will show the evolution of Western art, encouraging the listener to further explore their favorite styles and artists. Dr. Miller (AB, Artium Baccalaureus, in physics, Occidental College; MD from Stanford) is a retired ophthalmologist from Kaiser Permanente in Honolulu.
