In February, the Book Smart Book Club will meet to discuss Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson, call number 940.4514 La.
Larson tells the fateful story of the celebrated luxury ocean liner, as it travels its last journey towards the English countryside, carrying a record number of unaware families and children through the tense British seas, ten months into WWI. Switching between hunter and hunted, he captures the sheer drama and emotional power of the disaster which befalls the Lusitania, once a German U-boat has it in its sight.
The Book Smart Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the Language, Literature and History Section of the Hawaii State Library. New members are always welcome. No registration necessary. Inquiries about the Book Club can be directed to booksmartbookclub@gmail.com or 808-586-3499.
