News Literacy: Navigating the Flood of Information (WATCH PARTY)

May 18, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

News Literacy

The news landscape has grown increasingly complex.  Fraught with misinformation, half-truths and native advertising, we’re often left wondering who can we trust?

In this program, panel members Stacey Aldrich, Hawaii State Librarian, Michelle Broder Van Dyke, Night Editor of BuzzFeed and Brett Oppegaard, Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Hawaii and Columnist at Honolulu Civil Beat, will discuss one of the main challenges people face – dealing with the sheer volume of information in the digital age.

Join in remotely from the library and attend a “Watch Party” to learn ways to filter out the noise, how to gauge the reliability and credibility of sources and differentiate fact from fiction.

Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library 10 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
