The Mo‘olelo of Mele with Ian O’Sullivan

July 6, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 11:45 am

Musican Ian O'Sullivan

Celebrate Summer Reading! Our summer theme is E Heluhelu Kākou; Moʻolelo, and Hawaii’s public libraries will be celebrating the rich and varied stories that shape our communities.

Join local Guitar & ‘Ukulele virtuoso Ian O’Sullivan for some mo‘olelo (stories) from Hawai‘i’s past and music by Queen Lili‘uokalani. You will even hear the story of the Hawaiian Night Marchers interpreted into musical notes.

Ian is a classically-trained guitarist and composer from the North Shore of O’ahu. Well-versed in Hawaiian music and the ‘ukulele, in addition to the Western classical repertoire, Ian has performed internationally and across the United States both as a soloist and with various groups.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i. This is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with additional funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. Program schedule is subject to change.
