Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Talk Story

January 10, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Scientist conducting maintenance on solar panel and seismic instrument among green foliage

January is Volcano Awareness Month on the Island of Hawai‘i! Join us at one the many free events throughout the month, where you can learn about recent and past eruptive activity at the active volcanoes that make up the Island of Hawai‘i.

Come talk story with USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory chief field engineer Kevan Kamibayashi. Do you have questions about recent eruptions in Hawaii, volcanic hazards, how eruptions are monitored, or what it’s like working for a volcano observatory?

Kevan, who has worked for the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory for over 25 years, will be available to answer those questions and more. Come talk story, browse resources, and learn more about the volcanoes in your backyard.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required.
All programs are subject to change. See a schedule of upcoming events at librarieshawaii.org/events.
