Wondrous Stories through Magical Papers

Storyteller Yasu Ishida

Join the magical adventures of stories! Magician & storyteller Yasu Ishida will share stories from all over the world told in Kamishibai (“Paper-Theatre”) style, incorporating magic tricks and various paper art forms, including Origami and Pop-Up Arts. Kamishibai is a storytelling style, which became popular in Japan during the 1920s.

This 45-minute program is suitable for preschoolers and lower elementary students. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i. This is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with additional funding and support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii.

Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library (10 days for Oahu; 15 days for neighbor islands) to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
