Boyd Bond, a local historian, will discuss the life of Prince Kūhi’ō. Raised to rule, he was denied the throne after the monarchy’s overthrow in 1893. He continued to work tirelessly for the Hawaiian people throughout his life, serving as a delegate to the US Congress and creating the Hawaiian Homelands Act. He also served in the Boer War and helped introduce surfing to California! This is sure to be a fascinating talk by a very engaging speaker.
