Join us for an evening of iconic and artful songs by HRH Queen Lili‘uokalani, whose songwriting and love for her people include poignant and powerful works composed during her imprisonment in Iolani Palace after the unlawful overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The Queen’s beautiful blend of the deep Hawaiian tradition of haku mele and her western influence of composition are evident in more than 150 songs she wrote during her life. The select songs for this show were beautifully arranged for the Galliard String Quartet by Angel Matias Peña, Robert Cazimero, Byron Yasui, Larry Spivack and John McCreary. Sponsored by Friends of the Library of Hawaii.
