Gyotaku Fish Printing Exhibit by Micah Kai Yamauchi

August 8, 2022 - September 2, 2022

Sample of gyotaku fish print

The Gyotaku fish prints by Micah Kai Yamauchi will be on display from August 8 to September 2, 2022 in the Library Commons next to the Adult Reference desk. The exhibit is suitable for all ages, and may be viewed during normal library hours.

Micah Kai Yamauchi is a 15 year old student at Mid-Pacific Institute. Growing up in Hawaii, he enjoys the ocean and all it has to offer. Micah is an avid fisherman and diver but also loves to swim and bodyboard. He started the art of Gyotaku (traditional Japanese method of printing fish) when he was 11 years old. Over the years, he has developed his own style of documenting these fish stories on paper. His technique continues to evolve which is noticeable in the details of his prints. Micah enjoys creating gyotakus of the amazing fish he catches but he also has fun cooking new dishes to share with his family and friends.
