The Event Horizon Telescope collaboration recently obtained the first image of a black hole. Dr. Geoffrey Bower will describe the science behind this discovery, including what it tells us about Einstein’s theory of general relativity. He will also describe the pioneering role of Maunakea telescopes, the Submillimeter Array and the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope, in the experiment.
Dr. Bower is an astronomer, who specializes in black holes and radio telescopes. He has worked at universities and observatories in California, New Mexico, and Germany before coming to Hawaii.
