Hula Performances by Mu‘olaulani

June 25, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 10:45 am

Muolaulani hula dancers

In celebration of the 2019 Summer Reading Program!

Kumu Hula (Dance Master) Michael Pili Pang and his Mu‘olaulani dancers will showcase hula with a contemporary flair, to tell the stories of Hawai‘i and its rich culture. For the Summer Reading Program, the group will perform Hōkūleʻa, Nani Venuse (Beautiful Venus), and Na Po which describes the phases of the moon and is often called the Hawaiian Farmer’s Almanac.

Mu‘olaulani is a contemporary Hawaiian dance company. The performers have been trained through the dance school Halau Hula No‘eau in the style called hula ku‘i – a descriptive dance style which blends traditional hula with western idioms.

This free 45-minute program is suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i and the 2019 Summer Reading Sponsors. This program is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with funding and support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change.
