Have you ever wanted to learn how to play the ‘ukulele or just needed one to play? You can borrow Hawai‘i’s favorite music instrument at no charge! The ‘Ukulele Lending Program is available for keiki to kupuna at all Hawai‘i public libraries.
Once you’ve gotten your hands on an ‘ukulele, strum your way to the Hawai‘i ‘Ukulele Festival at the Kapi‘olani Park Bandstand on Sunday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This free event will feature live stage entertainment, a keiki cultural fun zone, a crafts and artisan village, multi-ethnic food court and ‘ukulele merchants. There will also be some community information booths and ʻukulele inspired merchandise. This is an opportunity to meet and engage Hawai‘i’s local ʻukulele community.
If you are unable to attend the event but want to learn to play the ‘ukulele, we recommend trying ArtistWorks, an online resource that offers self-paced lessons from professional musicians. Use your valid library card to access the ArtistWorks website or through the Libby app. Learn more about ArtistWorks by watching this video tutorial.
