Domestic violence is a public health crisis and the Hawai’i State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (“HSCADV”) is partnering with the Hawai’i State Public Library System this year to highlight this year’s theme, #Every1KnowsSome1, and show how common domestic violence is and that it is more than just physical violence.
Domestic violence is a pattern of abuse that occurs over a period of time. Abuse can be physical, emotional, psychological, financial, electronic, verbal, and sexual. In abusive relationships, one partner tries to maintain power and control over the other person by limiting their freedom and isolating them from friends and family.
HSCADV is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the safety and healing of victims, survivors, and their families. HSCADV is a collective voice of a diverse network of organizations and individuals, working to eliminate all forms of domestic violence in Hawai’i. With a membership of 29 member programs representing 18 organizations on all major Hawaiian islands, HSCADV fosters partnership, increases awareness of domestic violence, develops the capacity of members and community partners to address the needs of survivors and families, and advocates for social justice and change.
